Experiences of mothering from prison; a qualitative evidence synthesis

Maternal incarceration can be a disruptive process for the entire family. Incarcerated mothers experience stigma and are often regarded both as criminals who willingly abandoned their children. There have been several studies examining impact on children of incarcerated parents. However, synthesis qualitative exploring lived these women is lacking. This systematic review seeks to provide evidence literature. The following research question guided review; what experiences perceptions being mother in prison while separated from your Using thematic method, data 15 were analysed. Four analytical themes found: ‘Barriers Motherhood’, ‘Burden Perceived Failure’, ‘Salvation through Motherhood’ ‘A Better Future’. Motherhood was source perceived failing offered redemption women. As such, this supports that mothering role should encouraged facilitated prison.
